 Chicago

by John Kander, Fred Ebb & Bob Fosse

Based on a true story, this musical showcases all of the glamor and the corrupt underbelly of Chicago in the 1920s, when gangsters ruled the streets. The trial of showgirl Roxie Hart—based on the real-life murderer Beulah Annan—gives students a glimpse at the criminal justice system, the role of a freewheeling, sensationalist press, and the early fascination with “celebrity criminals.” Featured subjects include history, the social system during Prohibition, journalism and the court system. In addition, students will see a classic example of the choreography style of the legendary Bob Fosse, who influenced a generation of dancers.

Featured songs include “All That Jazz” and “Razzle Dazzle.”

“Pure show-biz electricity.” The New York Times
